Psychedelic Forum - Psilocybin as an Entheogen

During the day the Psychedelic Forum will present a series of lectures and workshops discussing the issue of "Psilocybin as an Entheogen". The botanical aspect will be demonstrated by chemist and mycologist, Jochen Gartz, Ph.D., shows the historical development of mushroom cultivation and considers the possibility of the use of mushrooms in the Eleusinian Mysteries. Psychotherapist and folklorist Wolfgang Bauer will discribe the mushrooms in fairy tales, myths and shamanism in every day life.

Ethnobotanics in traditional shamanism will be explained by Christian Raetsch, Ph.D. and Roger Liggenstorfer. Smartshops and the legal sales of psychedelics will be described by Hans van Hurk, the founder of the smartshop Conscious Dreams in Amsterdam, which was the first of its kind to sell psilocybin mushrooms legally. The impact of the constitutional right of the "freedom of religion" on the classification of entheogenics in the narcotic laws, will be lustrated by Bernhard Schmithüsen, LL.D. Boris Nikolaus Hiesserer will speak about the connection between traditional shamanism and the present psychonaut rave culture. Following the lectures, we will lead a panel discussion about what happens next, where the speakers will be at your disposal for any questions.

Dr. phil. Christian Rätsch
Born 1957, is a world-renowned anthroplogist and ethnopharmacologist who specializes in the shamanic uses of plants for spiritual as well as medicinal purposes. He studied Mesoamerican languages and cultures and anthropology at the University of Hamburg and spent, altogether, three years of fieldwork among the Lacandone Indians in Chiapas, Mexico, being the only European fluent in their language. He then received a fellowship from the German academic service for foreign research (DAAD) to realize his doctoral thesis on healing spells and incantations of the Lacandone-Maya at the University of Hamburg, Germany.

In addition to his work in Mexico, his numerous fieldworks have included research in Thailand, Bali, the Seychelles, as well as a long-term study (18 years) on shamanism in Nepal combined with expeditions to Korea and the Peruvian and Columbian Amazon. He also was a scientific anthropological advisor for expeditions organized by German magazines such as "GEO" and "Spektrum der Wissenschaften"/ (Spectrum of Sciences). Before becoming a full-time author and internationally renowned lecturer, Rätsch worked as professor of anthropology at the University of Bremen and served as consultant advisor for many German museums. Because of his extensive collection of shells, fossils, artifacts and entheopharmacological items, he has had numerous museum expositions on these topics in Germany as well as in Japan.

He is author of numerous articles and more than 40 books, including The Gateway to Inner Space, Plants of Love, Marijuana Medicine,The Dictionary of Sacred Plants and the renowned standard work Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Plants (recently being published by Inner Traditions, Vermont). He is also co-author of Witchcraft Medicine, Shamanism and Tantra in the Himalayas and is editor of the Yearbook of Ethnomedicine and the Study of Consciousness. Hans van den Hurk

Founder of the Smartshop Conscious Dreams, Amsterdam
Hans van den Hurk
Hans was born in 1960 in Amsterdam, as the oldest of 4 children. After studying physiotherapy, he worked for 10 years as an ITC-consultant for IBM.

In the early 90's during weekends he worked for drugsprevention, e.g he started the “safehouse project”, testing xtc pills and giving information at rave parties. Knowing that there's more in life than working in an office, and meanwhile getting more and more interested in psychedelics, he gave up all the securities he had, an began a shop. What started out as a modest gallery/herbal store within a years time grew out to be a international phenomenon. This, of course has everything to do with Conscious Dreams being the first ever shop to sell psychedelic mushrooms over the counter in 1994. The 2nd psychedelic revolution had begun! Nowadays Hans is still working in the warehouse of Conscious and also networkmanager at consciousdreams.nl

Hans is cofounder of psychoactivity.org together with Claudia Mueller-Ebeling and Arno Adelaars; they organise conferences on psychoactive-related topics.

Boris Nikolaus Hiesserer

    Mediadesigner
Boris Nikolaus Hiesserer
Geboren am 16. August 1961 hat Boris Hiesserer die Punk-, Hiphop-, Industrial-, Tribal-, House-, Breakbeat- und Trance-Kultur gelebt und hervorgebracht 1986 gründete er im holländischen Utrecht "Pyromania", als Foundation des einstigen Temple Ov Psychick Youth (TOPY) Netzwerks. In Manhattans Pyramid Club eröffnete New Yorks ersten Acid-House Club.

Psychedelic Cinema - Programm vom 11. April 2009, 09:00 bis 19:30 im Kulti Kaffee

Entheogen: Awakening the Divine Within

English - 70 Minutes - Entheogen: Awakening the Divine Within is a feature length documentary which invites the viewer to rediscover an enchanted cosmos in the modern world by awakening to the divine within.

The film examines the re-emergence of archaic techniques of ecstacy in the modern world by weaving a synthesis of ecological and evolutionary awareness, electronic dance culture, and the current pharmacological re-evaluation of entheogenic compounds.

Within a narrative framework that imagines consciousness itself to be evolving, Entheogen documents the emergence of techno-shamanism in the post-modern world that frames the following questions: How can a renewal of ancient initiatory rites of passage alleviate our ecological crisis? What do trance dancing and festivals celebrating unbridled artistic expression speak to in our collective psyche? How do we re-invent ourselves in a disenchanted world from which God has long ago withdrawn?

Entheogen invites the viewer to consider that the answers to these questions lie within the consciousness of each and every human being, and are accessible if only we give ourselves permission to awaken to the divine within.

Hither Hills Production / Mystic Fire Video

"We sit in the evening and talk and what happens is synergistic, miraculous, growth, evolutionary . . . I mean thrilling because of going to the edge, going beyond the edge, having company there, finding things you can bring back and they work and become part of everything that you're doing."
Ralph Abraham

"We dream of a world in which nature is seen as alive, in which the imagination permeates all reality, in which animals and plants are seen as a part of the living texture, the living components, the cells in the life of Gaia and Gaia in the life of the cosmos as a whole."
Rupert Sheldrake

"The flutter of the the moth's wing can trigger the hurricane. This is not a poetic statement. This is the fact of the matter within this kind of description of nature. In other words, very small changes create cascades into where whole states shift and are perturbed."
Terence McKenna

Terence McKenna - Timewave Zero

English - 24 Minutes - McKenna discusses the repercussions of our collective approach to Timewave internal Zero and how internal psychedelics can be used to condition ourselves for our upcoming move into of the body of eternity and out of three-dimensional time and space.

Hofmann’s Potion

English - 56 Minutes - Long before Timothy Leary urged a generation to “tune in, turn on and drop out,” lysergic acid diethylamide (or LSD) was being used by researchers committed to understanding the workings of the human mind. Discovered in 1943 by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann, LSD was hailed as a powerful tool for the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction and to provide a window into schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. Much of that pioneering research was done by the team of Humphry Osmond, Abram Hoffer and Duncan Blewett, all working in Saskatchewan.

While researchers were establishing the medical benefits of LSD, others—like the friend of Humphry Osmond, author Aldous Huxley—promoted the drug as a powerful tool for mental exploration and self-understanding. At Harvard, Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner and Ram Dass became popular heroes after the university cancelled their research into psychedelics. With thoughtful interviews, beautiful music and stunning cinematography, Hofmann’s Potion is an invitation to look at LSD with a more open, compassionate mind.

Featuring the Pioneers of LSD: Albert Hofmann - Timothy Leary - Aldous & Laura Huxley - Ram Dass - Humphry Osmond - Ralph Metzner - Duncan Blewett - Myron Stolaroff - Abram Hoffer - Stanislav Grof

Liquid Crystal Vision

English - 60 Minutes - Liquid Crystal Vision fuses the ancient and the future. It blends scenes of exotic places such as Angkor Wat, Goa, Laos, Japan, and others with superb graphics, sounds, performances, and channeled interviews. LCV presents dancing as one of the means to initiate a far-reaching personal evolution. It contrasts control versus freedom. The impact of the mystical arts movement on planetary consciousness is highlighted during the 60 minutes play time. Liquid Crystal Vision makes an artistic and political statement that leaves a strong imprint on the audience
